New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) has been designed to promote equity in outcomes and to increase opportunities for success for all students. Jason Harmon, the Director of ESSA-funded Programs, and Stephen Earley, Director of Field Support Services, will highlight New York State’s action plan and priority areas for ESSA implementation.

How do you design a community school to meet the emerging needs of students and their families? This panel will discuss the latest research and emerging trends in the community schools movement and will discuss the emerging needs of students, families, and communities. The Community Schools’ approach focuses on the whole-child using a systems’ approach to promote high-quality academic, social, emotional, and culturally responsive education that is equitable and for all children and families.

Regent Cashin has served the students of New York City with distinction for over 35 years as a teacher, superintendent and regional superintendent. Dr. Cashin has dedicated herself to educating children and ensuring that every child receives an equal opportunity to develop into a contributing member of society. Regent Cashin extends her commitment to students and learning at all levels through her service on the Board of Regents.
